From October 2019 Mac computer owners can upgrade to the new Apple operating system macOS Catalina.

This new release has added special apps for music, TV, and podcasts as well as smart, new features to the apps you use daily. Sidecar also lets you use your iPad as a second screen for your Mac.

If you haven’t updated the new operating system yet, then you can follow these steps:

Upgrading from macOS

Open the “Software Update” menu at”System Preferences” to find the upgrade to macOS Catalina. Click Upgrade Now, and follow the on-screen instructions to begin the upgrade.

Upgrading from an older version of macOS

If your Mac has a High Sierra (10.13), Sierra (10.12), or El Capitan (10.11) operating system, upgrade to macOS Catalina from the App Store. If your Mac has a Lion (10.7) or Mountain Lion (10.8) operating system, you should upgrade to El Capitan (10.11) first. 

Can your Mac model be upgraded?

To know if you can upgrade to the new macOS Catalina operating system, you must have:

– MacBook Air (mid-2012 or later)
– MacBook Pro (mid-2012 or later)
– Mac mini (late 2012 or later)
