Chromium Microsoft
Microsoft has announced its plans for the Edge browser. Some exciting functions are planned, which are to be rolled out in the next few weeks.
Highlights include vertical tabs, a password monitor and a “smart copy” function. We present the planned features and show alternatives that you can use now.
The latest Microsoft Edge looks chic and also delivers a smooth surfing experience thanks to the modern Chromium base.
In order to stand out from its rivals Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, the software will soon be missing some practical functions.
Whether that will be enough for every user to switch to the Microsoft browser is a matter of taste. However, the new features always make sense and make the browser a serious competitor.

Vertical tabs for a better overview
Vivaldi users have known it for a long time: Vertical tabs on the side of the screen can be a significant relief when working in the browser.
With a large number of open websites, in particular, it can quickly become confusing if they are all arranged side by side.
Microsoft wants to introduce the feature to all users in the next few months so that you keep a clear head when surfing with Edge and don’t accidentally make the wrong tabs.
If you want to be at the forefront, you should install the developer version. A look at the Vivaldi browser is also worthwhile.

Smart Copy: Copy content intelligently
Instead of copying the text unformatted when copying tables or other structured content, “Smart Copy” wants to ensure that the layout and other content in “Rich Web Format” are preserved. This saves annoying manual work.’
It is then possible, for example, to copy only certain columns of a table instead of all rows. Images and links are also taken over. The feature should be available to insiders within the next month.
Collections instead of bookmarks
No matter whether for a project, a vacation or at work: Research can quickly provide many links that need to be collected and sorted.
Instead of stale bookmarks, Edge also offers collections here. The features already available to insiders will soon be rolled out to everyone and also appear for mobile devices. You can also use the collections in the beta version.
In addition to the titles and logos of the websites in the collections, pictures are also displayed in a beautiful and clear manner that makes the whole collection come alive.
In addition, notes can be added and the articles can be rearranged comfortably, and exporting to Word is also a snap.
For those who would like to have an even greater range of functions, Notion is a nice alternative.
The powerful tool runs both in the browser and as a Windows tool and is perfect for creating and managing collections.

Password monitor warns of data leaks
Again and again, there are hacker attacks on the databases of websites, in which passwords and user data are stolen.
If one of the passwords you use appears in a list of stolen data, Edge will soon warn you about the password monitor and ask you to change your password.
All affected accounts should be displayed on a settings page. You should change a leaked password on all pages and not reuse it anywhere else.
You should also use different passwords for your services. Edge can already save your passwords for you and use them automatically.
The new password monitor should appear in the next few months. You can already check your passwords using the Pwned Passwords service.
To the web app: Pwned Passwords.
- Pwned Passwords v2
With the web app Pwned Passwords you can find out whether your password has already appeared in hacked data records.

Tracking protection, read mode and Netflix 4K.
Some cool and new features in Edge are already available now. Netflix users receive 4K and Dolby audio content directly in the browser.
The HDR format Dolby Vision is also supported. So far, no other browser can do this. 4K is otherwise only possible via the Netflix Windows 10 app.
Tracking protection built into Edge has also been improved. So users have the choice between three different modes, which should prevent tracking while surfing.
For this purpose, trackers are blocked by malicious and unknown websites.
So that you are not only safe while surfing, but can also read comfortably, Edge offers the reading mode, which can be used to adjust the text size and colours in the browser.
You can also use it to read content aloud. Annoying website content is automatically hidden in reading mode.
The mode will soon be expanded again so that individual lines can be highlighted while reading.
If you haven’t tried the new Chromium-based Edge yet, you can download the software now for free. In the near future, you can look forward to practical feature growth.
