NPC deploys 786,741 personnel to Kwara

The NPC Federal Commissioner, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Gidado, spoke during a workshop in Ilorin on Friday. The workshop aimed to improve journalists’ reporting on the 2023 Population and Housing Census. Gidado stated that the workshop’s objectives were to improve the quality and quantity of media content, neutralize negative prejudices and misrepresentations, and update journalists on preparatory activities for the exercise.

The federal commissioner emphasized that the 2023 census would be unique because the country would be conducting a digital and paperless census for the first time. The exercise would be conducted with the latest technology in population data collection throughout the country. He explained that the census would entail the complete enumeration of all persons, while the housing census would enumerate all living quarters and their characteristics, within Nigerian borders at a specified time.

Gidado mentioned that the 2023 PHC would also collect data on climate change for programs planning in education, health, housing, and other social services at all levels of governance. The information derived from the census would help business and private sectors plan their activities.

During the workshop, a Resource person, Mr. Adepoju Emmanuel, mentioned that more than two million people applied for the various categories of work, while 786,741 were deployed. The State Director of the NPC, Alhaji Sa’eed Yusuf, said that the workshop would be conducted in all the states of the federation, including Kwara.

Yusuf stated that the commission would be conducting the first digital census in the country, giving Nigerians and the world at large reliable, accurate, and acceptable data. He urged the media to enlighten the public and support the personnel for the exercise’s success as stakeholders in the 2023 census.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other resource persons delivered papers at the workshop. They highlighted some of the steps taken by the commission for the census’s success and the duties of journalists before, during, and after the exercise.
